Shivamogga Lions vs Bijapur Bulls: Shivamogga Lions will look to ensure their spot in semi-finals

21st match of the ongoing Karnataka premier league will be played between Shivamogga Lions vs Bijapur Bulls at Mysore today. Defending champions Bijapur bulls are the first team to get knocked out of Karnataka premier league 2019. With a must-win game against Belavi panthers, they suffered a humiliating loss and thus ensured their eviction in the tournament. Currently, they remain the only team to stay out of the play-off contention until now. Led by experienced campaigner Bharath Chipli the team failing to win the crucial moments of the game played a crucial role in their dismissal show this season. They have a wide range of players who can change the game on their own but they have not clicked as a unit and that also a key reason for the flop show this season. Today they are up against Shivamogga lions a consolidation win will help them to move forward for next season.

On another hand, Shivamogga lions are one among the three teams that have sealed their berth in playoffs. They began the tournament with a hat trick of wins and suffered two back to back losses. They are standing second in the points table and a win at today’s match will boost their confidence which will help them to move forward in the tournament. Captained by seasoned campaigner Abhimanyu Mithun the team is doing well this season and one of the major positives about this side is their ability to bounce back during the crucial phases of the encounter. More importantly, they are playing as a unit which is key to win matches in cricket.

Pitch report:

So far Mysuru pitch has been batting paradise but offers little assistance to the spinners. So the spinners are expected to play a key role here. All the four matches witnessed chasing team winning the matches. So teams that won the toss will look to chase down the target. So toss is also going to play the crucial role here. As far as weather is concerned it is expected to be cloudy and there is an only little amount of chances for the rain which is good news for both sides and the tournament organizers. With the presences of short boundaries, the pitch is expected to get better under lights making it life difficult for the bowlers.

Expected playing XI:

Shivamogga Lions:

Arjun Hoysala, Nihal Ullal (WK), Abhimanyu Mithun (C), Pavan Deshpande, S P Manjunath, M Nidhish, Akshay Ballal, Sujit N Gowda, HS Sharath, Pradeep T, Prithviraj Shekhawat.

Bijapur Bulls:

Bharath Chipli (C), Naveen MG, Rajoo Bhatkal, Jaswath Acharya, Suneel Raju, Bhareth NP, Chiranjeevi G (WK), Swapnil Yelave, KC Cariappa, Prateek Jain, Suraj Kamath.

Players to watch out for:

Shivamogga Lions:

Abhimanyu Mithun:

Handy lower order batsmen and effective swing bowler Abhimanyu Mithun has been so good so far in the tournament and he will look to continue the same form incoming matches too that will help his team to emerge champions. He bats slightly up the order which allows him to give another bowler a chance to feature in playing XI.

Pavan Deshpande:

Another batsmen Pavan Deshpande has got three 40+ scores in the last four matches. If he can able to repeat the same performance that will boost his team to seal the victory and he will look to repeat the same in today’s match.

Bijapur Bulls:

Bharath Chipli:

Experienced campaigner Bharath Chipli has been doing his job very well both as a captain and as a player but his team let him down on many occasions. Consistent Bharath Chipli will look to continue the same amount of consistency in earlier matches that will help his team to turn the tables on their favour.

KC Cariappa:

The charismatic off-spinner KC Cariappa has once been in the news for his accurate spin bowling but cannot live up to the expectations as he becomes too predictable. He will look to find some form that will help him to stay confident in the upcoming domestic season.

Final thoughts:

As toss is likely to play a crucial role but the kind of form that Shivamogga Lions is enjoying right now will help them to emerge victorious if they can play up to their potential.

Bellary Tuskers vs Belagavi Panthers: Belagavi panthers should find ways to stop Krishnappa Gowtham

This year’s edition of ongoing Karnataka premier league has reached its peak as all the league encounters have been completed and the tournament is gearing up for its first qualifier today. The first qualifier of the tournament will be played between Bellary tuskers and Belagavi panthers today 7 pm at Srikantadatta Narasimha Raja Wadiyar Ground at Mysuru. Interestingly both these teams have started their campaign by facing against each other. Bellary tuskers had a quiet outstanding tournament as they have won 4 out of six matches in the tournament. But both of their defeats came only in short margins. They are riding high on the form of Krishnappa Gowtham who has taken 19 wickets so far in the tournament also hit a century in his last match in their league stages. So today it is really interesting to see how they are doing against Belagavi panthers who are also having a quiet outstanding season in the tournament.

Belagavi panthers on another hand stunningly started their campaign by winning first three of their matches but suffered back to back defeats in the next matches. Star batsmen Manish Pandey has provided a much-needed boost for their side but he left midway of the tournament due to his national commitments. One of the major reasons for Belagavi Panthers success is they are playing as a unit and they can able to win the crucial moments of the game. For instance, the tournament was highly interrupted due to rain in initial stages and during that time it is all about winning the crucial moments of the game according to VJD method and they have done it in style. That is the major reason for their success in the tournament so far.

Pitch report:

With rain threads still looming and heavy rains are not expected so you can a full match without any rain intervention. Out of six matches played at Mysuru ground 5 of them won by the teams that chase the total. Pitch looks different under lights and makes life difficult for the bowlers. in first innings they are getting some early movements so batting second will be the right option for the toss winning captain.

Expected playing XI:

Bellary Tuskers:

Abhishek Reddy, CM Gautam (C), Devdutt Padikkal, CA Karthik, Krishnappa Gowtham, Sharath Srinivas, Abrar Kazi, KP Appanna, Bhavesh Gulecha, Prasidh Krishna, Zeeshan A Sayyad.

Belagavi Panthers:

Arshdeep Singh Brar, Stalin Hoover, Ravikumar Samarth, Dikshanshu Negi, Abhinav Manohar, Mir Kaunian Abbas (C), Shubhang Hegde, Ritesh Bhatkal, Avinash D, Darshan MB, Zahoor Farooqui.

Players to watch out for:

Bellary Tuskers:

CM Gautam:

One of the seasoned campaigners in Karnataka domestic batting line-up Gautham has been the consistent performer in Karnataka premier league so far. But in this season he looks little off-color and he will look to make most of the opportunity to bring back to form that will help his side to seal the victory.

Krishnappa Gowtham:

Krishnappa Gowtham has been in the form of his life. He has created a history by taking 19 wickets in a single season of the Karnataka premier league. He will look to continue the same momentum that will help his side to qualify for finals without many hurdles.

Belagavi Panthers:

Ravikumar Samarth:

Ravikumar Samarth is one of the experienced campaigners in Karnataka cricketing circles and he has been quite consistent for his team and his contribution is vital for teams success today. So he will look to play a key role that will help his side to earn a final berth.

Arshdeep Singh Brar:

The highly talented youngster who is expected to reach several heights in coming years so his team will at him to deliver a strong performance today and better performance will take him to reach several heights IN upcoming domestic season.

Final thoughts:

Both the teams are equally poised but Krishnappa Gautham factor is giving a slight edge for Bellary Tuskers. So if Belagavi panthers want to win then they should stop Krishnappa Gautham. Otherwise chasing will be a wiser option for both the teams.

In Tirunelveli, the match between the DD and MP is the first match of this season. The surface of the ground is decent for batting. The pitch slowed down the team considerably as the tournament progressed. The score of the match is depending on the decision of the toss winning team. If they expected to test the behavior of the pitch going with the first bowl is better.

Possibilities of winning between the teams

By comparing the last season match between the teams Dindigul Dragons and Madurai Panthers, the team which opts to bat first wins the match. According to the pitch condition of the ground the determination of winning depends.

When comparing the scorecard between the teams of Dindigul Dragons have best bowling and batting squad than the Madurai panthers. But now the team Madurai panthers have well-played players getting training to defeat enough the players of Dindigul Dragons. Madurai panthers team was looking for this opportunity to give back the defeat of loss to the team Dindigul dragons.

Probable winner

By considering the points and performance of the teams, Madurai Panthers will give their best against the Dindigul Dragons to improve the standard on table list with the victory. Nevertheless, Dindigul Dragons have ideal players to defeat the match against the opponent team. SL vs. SA: spirited Lankans will look to keep their winning momentum

A victory against depleted South Africa cricket team will help the Sri Lankan cricket team to keep their semi-final hopes alive.  Sri Lanka has got magic turnaround as their senior players Angelo Mathews and Lasith Malinga raised their bars and are peaking at right time. They need to win every match in order to make it into the semi-final and they will definitely aim for a victory against South Africa side as both teams are facing against each other riverside Durham. With two points will help the Lankans find a spot just below England and another win from there will help them to find a place in the top four. Captain Dimuth Karunaratne and Kusal Perera in sublime and they got the right support from Angelo Mathews in last game. So with Angelo Mathews finding form at right time team looks more balanced now. They can beat any team on their given day.

South Africa on another hand they are out of the tournament and has got only one win so far. As their captain insisted they will play the fearless brand of cricket to retain the pride and give some future hopes to budding cricketers in the country and for their fans. Despite paltry performance from all departments their pace bowling unit still got all firepower to dismantle any batting unit. So we can expect an interesting contest between bat and ball.

Team statistics:

Both the teams have met against each other in 5 occasions and Sri Lanka is taking the upper hand with three wins thanks to their strong performance in ICC tournaments so far. South Africa have won twice one at 1999 world cup thanks to Lance Klausner’s all-round show and they have won against Sri Lanka in last world cup 2015. If both the teams have played up to their potential the match will be a treat for the cricketing fans. With no signs of rain, we can expect a flat pitch and can assist spinners in the later part of the innings.

Expected playing XI:

Sri Lanka: Dimuth Karunaratne(c), Kusal Perera, Avishka Fernando, Kusal Mendis, Angelo Mathews, Dhananjaya de Silva, Thisara Perera, Jeevan Mendis, Isuru Udana, Lasith Malinga, Nuwan Pradeep.

South Africa: Faf du Plessis (C), Quinton de Kock, Hashim Amla, Rassie van der Dussen, Aiden Markram, David Miller, Andile Phehlukwayo, Chris Morris, Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi, Imran Tahir.

Players to watch out for:

Sri Lanka:

Kusal Perera:

Swashbuckling opener Kusal Perera is in red hot form these days and he has got all the abilities to destroy any kind of bowling attack on his given day. Already three half-centuries to his name Sri Lanka will hope for a strong performance from him that will help them to escape of Rabada’s new-ball burst.  If he can able to score big then it will increase Sri Lanka’s chances

Lasith Malinga:

Age is just a number for Lasith Malinga as he continues to rock the international cricketing arena with his strong performance. He has become more skillful bowler now and if he can continue the same form he can dismantle the depleting south African batting order which also helps them to seal the semi-final berth.

Quinton de cock:

Quinto de cock has got the promising starts so far in the tournament but failed to convert them into big ones. With no semi-final hopes, he can play his own game which will help him to score big and eventually South Africa is looking for a strong performance from him that will help them to salvage some pride.

Kagiso Rabada:

How many times we can see the frustrated Rabada even though he has given 100% to his team. He lacks support from another end which is a major point of concern. He will look  to continue the same performance that will help his team to emerge victoriously and deny Sri Lanka’s hopes of  sealing semi-final berth

Sri Lankans are peaking at right time and if they play up to their potential they can emerge as a victorious team today.
